Advice, information, homework: geen -s en geen “a”

De regel

Sommige zelfstandige naamwoorden zijn uncountable in het Engels: advice, information, homework, furniture, news, luggage. Ze krijgen geen -s en geen a/an: zeg some advice, a piece of advice of a lot of information.

In het Arabisch (نصائح, معلومات) en Frans (des conseils, des informations) hebben deze woorden een meervoud, dus schrijven leerders advices en informations. In het Engels krijgen ze nooit -s, en het werkwoord is enkelvoud: The information is correct.

News eindigt op -s maar is enkelvoud: The news is good. Om te tellen gebruik je een eenheid: two pieces of luggage, a piece of furniture.

2. a) furniture. Furniture is uncountable: no -s, no a.
3. c) information is. Information is always singular: is.
